Tony Pritchard's Timeline



October 29, 1917 - Born in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of immigrants from England

1935 - Graduated from High School

1935-1941 - Worked in the laboratory of a textile company, and in a bank in Providence

January 15, 1942 - Inducted into the Army at Fort Devens, Massachusetts

January - April 1942 - Artillery Basic Training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina

April -June 1942 - Enlisted artillery soldier, 2nd Armored Division, Fort Benning, Georgia

July - October, 1942 - Artillery Officer Candidate School, Fort Sill, Oklahoma

October 1942-February 1944 - Second Lieutenant, 6th Armored Division, at various locations in California

February 1944 - 6th Armored Division shipped to England as part of the buildup for the invasion of Western Europe.

July 1944 - 6th Armored Division moved to France; sees its first combat on July 28.

July 28 - August 22, 1944 - In combat in France

August 22, 1944 - wounded in action.  Evacuated to England for recovery.

December 8, 1944 - Returns to the 6th Armored Division

December 1944 - May 1945 - In combat in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany.

May - August 1945 - In the Army of Occupation in Germany

August 1945 - May 1947 - Worked in the United Nations Displaced Persons Program in Europe.  From July 1946 to May 1947 was director of the displaced persons camp at Windesheim, Germany.

April 18, 1947 - Married Marion Van Binsbergen, a Dutch citizen also working for UNRRA

Tony and Marion returned to the United States in May or June of 1947.  Tony attended Harvard on the GI Bill, getting his bachelor's degree at age 32.  They had three sons, and Tony worked in business and public health, living in the Greater New York area and then in Vermont.  He died on August 22, 1991.
